Jamie Foxx credits daughter’s guitar playing for saving his life after he suffered a stroke

Jamie Foxx believes his daughter, Anelise Foxx, played a pivotal role in saving his life after he suffered a stroke following a brain bleed in April 2023. The Creed III actor, who had been hospitalized for a mysterious medical complication, recently opened up about his harrowing health ordeal in his Netflix special, Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…. The 56-year-old comedian revealed that during his 13 to 15-day stay at Atlanta’s Piedmont Hospital, doctors feared they might lose him due to unstable vitals. “There was a 13 or 14-day period where they said, we’ve gotta keep him calm because his vitals were so high we’re going to lose him,” Foxx shared. Despite their best efforts, nothing seemed to stabilize his condition. However, a miraculous turn occurred when his 16-year-old daughter Anelise, who is also a talented musician, began playing guitar by his bedside. Foxx recalled the moment with deep emotion, stating, “They said when she was playing, my vitals went down. The nurses were baffled. Like, ‘Wow, what did they give him?’”

Foxx believes that God was working through the guitar, calling it his “spiritual defibrillator.” He shared that his daughter snuck into his hospital room with her guitar, determined to help her father. “I didn’t want her to see me like that but she snuck in and said, ‘I know what my daddy needs … that’s my daddy.’” Describing the moment as a miracle, he added, “That’s when a miracle happened, and that miracle was working through my youngest daughter.” He believes Anelise’s music played a key role in stabilizing his condition. In a heartfelt moment during the special, Foxx welcomed Anelise onstage to perform a song together. With tears in their eyes, he encouraged his daughter to “shine” and thanked her for stepping up during his darkest moments. “Anelise, thank you so much for stepping up when all was lost,” he said, emotionally adding, “You had to make it because I always dreamed that we’d perform together onstage one day.”

The emotional performance included a powerful rap and song where Foxx expressed his gratitude, rapping, “God don’t take me, my oldest daughter’s getting married, please let me walk her down the aisle.” Jamie Foxx was able to fulfill that wish in September, when he was well enough to walk his eldest daughter, Corinne, down the aisle for her wedding to Joe Hooten, a moment that marked a joyous recovery after his health scare.
